Our History
History
Fjalar Åkerblom, mentor to the company’s founders Björn Björklund and Markus Asplund, was a supervisor at Rolls-Royce Marine and has been working with propellers since the early 1970’s. Fjalar began constructing propellers in his garage and later moved to the Aluminia yard FF-jet, which became a part of Rolls-Royce Marine in the 2000s.
Markus’ experience in propeller manufacturing goes back to 1992 when he was working at Rolls-Royce Marine.
Björn has been working with propellers and water jet impellers since 1998.
Björn and Markus worked together at Rolls-Royce Marine in Kokkola until 2005.
MTP-Service was founded in 2008 by Björn and Markus. When the company started manufacturing propellers, Fjalar naturally became their mentor.
In 2012, Steelprop Finland Ab Oy was formed.
In 2017 Steelprop Finland Ab Oy moved to Alholmen

Project Green Marine
We aim to provide a smarter, greener way to prolong the life span on sea-going vessels, reduce energy consumption, and lower environmental impact. The wider our efforts spread and the more vessels we attend to, the greater the benefits - for all.
Our propellers can be recycled - an ecological win-win A growing business the company offers is e.g. refurbishing old and damaged propellers. Every year thousands of insurance claims are made on accidents with grounded propellers. A vast majority of these cases are solved by replacing the damaged propellers with Asian-made copies, which are not always even optimized for the boat engine. Our sustainability project “Green Marine” has an answer for this. The technology to refurbish and recycle almost all steel propellers on the market is possible, yet a quite simple, ecological fix with the dockyard’s know-how - recycling at its best!
